pablo sandoval - there are a few things you should know about pablo, who was dubbed "kung fu panda" by barry zito after pablo scored a run against the dodgers by jumping over the tag of the catcher. he is the giants best hitter over the season. people say he has a firey personality and playful sense of humor. apparently, right before the giants ended a 6-game losing streak, he told giants broadcaster duane kuiper "i just filled my car up with gas so i'm feelin' pretty good right now." sounds like an acceptable maybe even exceptional human being, right? one problem. pablo sandoval drove out of at&t park after sunday's game in his black escalade (shiny, immaculate) with his window rolled down...a little boy with freckles about 5 years old wearing a giants jersey and jeans sprinted up to his car screaming "pablo!! pablo!!" with a baseball he hoped to be signed. not only did the big panda ignore the little boy, but his first reaction was to roll UP his tinted window. the little boy ran back to his father in disbelief, and the father shook his head and said something along the lines of "that isn't right..."and, it wasn't. that little boy was just one little boy. there was no larger crowd. pablo was one of the last giants to leave the ballpark and most interested fans had left by then. pablo sandoval is 23 years old, he's done well for the giants, he's got his whole career ahead of him, he's got a nickname that SF eats up and loves...what in the world is stopping him from taking the half minute to sign ONE g.d. baseball for a kid, to earn an ear to ear smile and a fan for life?? maybe there were no cameras around and he didn't see it as a photo opp, or maybe he really had to be somewhere for something. but no, why did he have to ignore and roll up the window? a "sorry kid, not today" would have sucked, but it would have been better.OK, done ruminating over this.bottom line: pablo sandoval isn't the good, cuddly bear you thought he was.
