I got a lesson in chinese calligraphy from a master and a very jovial man filmed below. It looks like smooth, straight-forward activity but in fact, is way hard. In the pics you can see my shtty attempts and the finished product - a fan i made for my aunt that reads "Err Ahyi Ni Hao Ma?" (Second Aunt, How are you?) KINDA cheesy but she liked it. ;)

for more background, chinese calligraphy is considered a serious and respectable form of chinese art and there are six different styles ranging from the more traditional almost hieroglyphic looking characters to a more modern, rushed, wispy at the ends version. The Ching (Qing?) Dynasty was particularly a strong time for chinese calligraphy as many of the emperors were masters of it.
